Author of the most well-known hymn in the English language, John Newton had fled the face of God like Jonah long before. Hardened in heart and reduced to a beggar, he would be rescued and go on to become a slave ship captain. Few would believe that such a man would transition into the Anglican priesthood within 20 years, writing the hymn Amazing Grace as he reflected on his own days. Within his redeemed life we see a hope and inspiration for our own lives and the lives of this generation.
