Little is known about Hispanic Protestants--their history, perspectives, leadership, and congregational life. What is their story and how can it be understood within a broader context? Protestantes/Protestants explores the historical dynamics that motivated Protestant missionaries and their denominational strategies. It explores the theological and cultural factors that shaped the process and outcome, and asks how we can understand current theological perspectives and religious manifestations of Hispanic Protestantism. Further, the authors explore what it means to be Hispanic and Protestant in a Hispanic culture which is predominantly Catholic, and to be Hispanic within Protestant denominations which are predominantly Anglo. The purpose of this book is to offer a multi-disciplinary introduction to Hispanic Christianity within mainline Protestant traditions. Two crucial questions dominate: What is Hispanic about Hispanic Protestants and what is Protestant about Hispanic Protestants?
