In Torchbearers of The Truth, readers will travel back through time in British history to the Reformation which took place between the 14th and 18th centuries, and are reminded of the debt that mankind owes to some remarkable Christians from that era. These Christians led the way out of the darkness of superstition principally by making readable copies of the Bible available to ordinary people and by preaching that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
Many suffered imprisonment and the pains of martyrdom for their faith. Some names such as John Wycliffe and John Bunyan are well known. Others are not so well known, but they have been included to remind readers that God has not forgotten His faithful servants and that they will receive their reward. Most chapters are edited versions of a series of articles that first appeared in The Believer's Magazine. They are now being published in this more permanent format to help keep alive their memory and to encourage readers to follow their example of devotion to God.
